CHAPTER 7. FIRECHAPTER 7. FIRE\Article 3. Flammable Liquids

(a)   No person, company, firm, or corporation shall keep or cause to be kept or stored in any building in the city any kerosene or crude oil in quantities exceeding 25 barrels.

(b)   No person, company, firm, or corporation shall keep or cause to be kept or stored in any building in the city any gasoline, naphtha, benzine, or any other light products of crude petroleum, or fuel oil in quantities exceeding 100 gallons, except that contained in tanks of automobiles, tractors, or other self-propelled vehicles.

(c)   Except as hereinafter provided by section 7-302, no person, company, firm or corporation shall keep or cause to be kept or stored within the city, gasoline, kerosene, naphtha, distillate, fuel oil, crude oil, or any other inflammable or combustible liquids in quantities in excess of 500 gallons unless such liquids shall be stored in containers buried at least three feet underground.

No storage above-ground tank or tanks with capacity of 1050 gallons or more containing inflammable liquids such as gasoline, benzine, naphtha, kerosene, or other light products of crude petroleum or fuel oil used in connection with either whole or retail and distributing stations; for any pipeline for use in the transfer or conveyance of such inflammable liquids as above described from outside district described below to within the district shall be located within the following boundaries within the corporate limits of the city:

Beginning at a point where the west line of Block 4 extended intersects the south line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way, thence northerly to where the above line intersects the north line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way to a point where the extended west line of Block 10 intersects the north line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way, thence northerly along the east line of Beech Street to the south line of 10th Street, thence easterly along the south line of 10th Street south line of 10th Street to Elm Street, thence southerly along the west line of Elm Street to a point where the east line of Block 6 intersects the north line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way, thence westerly along the north line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way to a point where the east line of Block 5 intersects the north line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way, thence southerly to where same line extended intersects south line of the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way, thence westerly along the A.T. & S.F. right-of-way to point of beginning.

Any and all tanks used for the storage of the inflammable liquids as herein above described at any other point within the corporate limits of the city shall be of all steel gas-tight construction and equipped with screen vents of ample size; wooden roof tanks are hereby prohibited, and location of any and all such tanks must first have the approval of the chief of the fire department.

It shall be unlawful for any person, company, or corporation to erect, build, or place on the north side of the railroad tracks of the A.T. & S.F. Railroad Company within one block of Main Street, any storage tank for the purpose of storing any explosive or inflammable oils, such as naphtha gas, aline, penasine, coal oil, distillation or other oils of like nature, of more than 500 gallons capacity, same being partly or totally above ground.
